Humaita-Manaus, BR-319, Day 3

11.09.2013,

The caption of the picture could be simple and short : Completely drivable road through the rain forest on a less-rainy-season or something similar. The fact is that the road was drivable, but no talking about the speed.
Ok, let's start from the morning.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05499
The morning is misty and wet, and a bit cooler than on the previous days. Everything is relative, of course.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05508
This is the place where last night we were going to stop at first. No ants in sight, seems they like to sleep longer in the morning.

Morning coffee before moving. While keeping the current pace of driving - this 700 km should be covered in a week. The emphasis is on the word "should". Because a number of other travellers have written in their blogs that the last part of the road before Manaus was worse.

The concept of a "good road " and a " bad road " is also relative. For myself - a good road is a road along which you can drive, and will not get stuck, and bad roads are all the rest.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05501
Everything is growing, enough moisture and warmth.

Ten minutes after take-off - at 7:18 - the day`s first muddier part is ahead, not just several hundred metes long, but long enough to get out of the car and walk it over, just in case.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05514
Not to get stuck on the bottom, I try to drive on the higher part. The higher part is slippery, and the last ten meters goes sideways. Then again the ground is stronger.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05523
Next there is again a "better road".

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05525
And some of the newly repaired bridges.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05526

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05528
A typical smaller bridge on the BR- 319 road, some boards have been fixed with a few nails, and there are some entirely loose, but they are passable, just check that the wheels are moving along the right boards. And some of the boards can be fixed safer.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05530
Because falling down is still from higher than just a few meters.

This is an old bridge here and no need to pass it over, the new bridge is just next to it.

The more decent road is followed by muddier parts of about hundred metes long.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05548
Since no large vehicles move here and the ground seems not soft I try to drive along the wheel tracks this time. But while starting to drive the swing is too weak and for the first time the bus gets stuck on the bottom. After getting free the swing is more powerful and it will help.

One of the innumerable bad parts of the road.

402 km are left to the beginning of the road. The sign at the next Embratel post.

And for a change - some part of asphalt road.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05582

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05583
It is more to convenient just ride past of some of the bridges.

And now it is " less rainy period" so you can imagine what it will look like when it has been raining for three months in a row.

By the next tower (by the ninth one) is the gate wide open.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05698
Again we will spend the night by the gate, as in previous nights.

BR-319_Humaita_Manaus_Day_3_DSC05702
The forest on the other side of the road in this area is much higher and tighter. Almost untouched.

And here again the ants come in the dark, so the cars must be moved again, and hope that the new place is outside the walking path of the ants. It is. At least they are not seen. In conclusion it can be said that the road, passed on the third day, was muddier compared with the first two days, and again we got 100 kilometers on. It`s good that soon the half of the road will be covered.

The journey of the third day.
