Kaieteur Falls

Day 959,
105 957 km since the beginning of the journey,
Guyana.

226 –meters high Kaieteur waterfall is located in the middle of Guyana by the Potaro river and is one of the most important tourist attractions of the country.

To visit the waterfall is possible by plane. From Georgetown the flight takes about an hour. Or the alternative is to hike through the rain forest for several days and in the meantime have a boat ride along the river because there is no road that leads to the waterfall.

In the morning the sky was rather cloudy and all the signs predicted rain. The organizers said that usually the flights still will take place only not much to see through the plane windows.

The plane is small and narrow and there are seats for eight passengers and two pilots. The first half an hour after the take-off everything around was cloudy, but later the green earth came in sight.

Guyana rainforest trees as seen from the plane, no bare land in sight anywhere.

Like broccoli cabbage, only this green field reaches up to the horizon.

Then, the land changes increasingly more mountainous.

The guide says that just now it is the time of less water. But the sight is impressive, I had previously seen pictures, but the reality is still quite different.

All kinds of fences are missing.

Guests can stay here for two hours, the time passes very quickly. Then back on the plane, and the flight goes quite low over the river and along the canyon.

In conclusion we can say that - beautiful and powerful, although not as powerful and as big as Victoria or Iguazu, however, the Kaieteur is worth a visit.

Now again a little about the visa issue. As in Guyana - the visa is needed also in the next country - Suriname..

To make the long story short – according to the latest information - since November 2011 the citizens of many countries can apply yourself for a "Tourist Card", which costs 25 USD, and to the list of these countries belongs Estonia as well. To apply a " Tourist Card "- what was required was a valid passport, a copy of passport picture page and some other copies of some documents.

The entire process generally went quickly and everything was in order soon.

Another interesting tricycle. Somehow familiar.

Lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1830, but it was not possible to climb up there because of restorations. Pity. Could have had a good view over the city

And the waterfront. On the right is the Atlantic Ocean.
