Curitiba 2
In Curitiba the next very peculiar building is the - Museu Oscar Niemeyer (Museu do Olho or Museum of the Eye). It was opened in 2002. The architect Oscar Niemeyer (born in 1907) had designed the building as early as 1967 already. The two buildings have a total exhibition area of 35,000 square meters .You just take a look around in one hall and in another hall and four hours have passed unnoticed.
Underground, or to be more specific - underwater tunnel leads to the tower, and there is one more exhibition hall four floors higher.
One can read about the most important Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer who is presently 104 years old , in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Niemeyer.
Some more pictures of Curitiba
The tourist bus makes a longer stop in the centre of the town. Then one more hour of riding about in town and I am back at the Botanical Garden. The car is still there and everything is the way it should be. I look over the tourist brochures got from various places and one thing is clear. Just one day is not enough for attractions in the town. I should come back tomorrow. And maybe the day after tomorrow.
The next day. The Opera House or Wired Opera House which is situated in the middle of a small lake. Constructed of steel pipes, the time spent on construction - 75 days.
Cafeteria wall.
Next – The Tanguá Park.
And one more interesting place - the TV tower.
At the top there is a viewing platform, and in clear weather one cannot miss this opportunity. Practically – there are no visitors.
When driving down in an elevator I remembered that also so called Museum of Communications should be here, but actually by the entrance there is a small display of the technology of the last year.
There were times when the phones had no dial plates with numbers.
Curitiba is in fact really a great city, and the size of the shopping centres is appropriate to the million –inhabitant city. I found a decent and well-stocked book shop that sells "The Rough Guide to Brazil" and many other English travel literature.
No more pictures now. For some reason the action - to put the pictures up - always takes much time, sometimes it can even take half a day until the post is up.
In the meantime, the 622 th day of the journey has begun. It is Thursday, November 1. I have not counted, how many times I've seen this message of error, but the measurement of the speed of the internet gave the following result.
