Day 412
48,716 km since the beginning of the journey.
Current Location: Lüderitz
The Fish River Canyon, located in the southern part of Namibia, is advertised as the largest in Africa and the second largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The Fish River Canyon is 161 km long, up to 27 km wide and in some places more than 550 m deep. While in Namibia - surely - a place like this should be visited.
The first sight is really overwhelming. Only - no visitors. And not only visitors are missing, but no locals as well. Nobody offers to guard the car, nor sells anything.
This is the main observation deck of the canyon, and here too – complete silence.
The picture was taken shortly after noon and the temperature was more than +30 C.
Only three birds are sitting on the handrail and paying no attention to a human being.
Panorama
Color Protection. From the distance did not even distinguish that some insect was sitting on a stone.
Another view to the canyon
The next scheduled stopover was planned in Canon Roadhouse, located about twenty kilometers away. The place was distinctive as everywhere - outdoors and indoors one could notice many vehicles of the last mid-century.
Volga??
I think Cadillac 62, from 1949. The Russian GAZ-12 ZIM had the same look.
In the dark - Volga it is!
The campsite is behind the building complex. As advertised. Decent and shadowy. Shadow is generally very important here, as the sun heats the car very hot. As in most South African camping sites here is still a place to grill or braa. And water from the tap and electricity are available. This white box attached to the post.
Taking off the cover feels like in Europe. Haven`t met this kind of places very often. And just in case I`ve got the cable with the suitable nozzle and can download the laptop and whatever- the current is available.
Eating …
… and drinking
